When You Worry About How God Will Provide for What He’s Called You to Do, Remember the Ravens.

My home lies under a flight path used by a group of local ravens. In the mornings, they fly south over my house, heading toward the city, where they scavenge for food. Come evening, they return north to roost.

One day, I was watching the ravens fly by, and the word "provision" came into my mind. I was a little surprised since this was not a word I normally associated with ravens. As I contemplated the possible connections between ravens and provision, I remembered the story of Elijah and his sojourn to the brook Cherith. God had directed him to go there and hide, telling him, “You shall drink from the brook, and I have commanded the ravens to feed you there” (1 Kings 17:6 ESV). Sure enough, the ravens fed Elijah, faithfully bringing him bread and meat every morning and every evening (apparently Elijah had settled under a raven flight path too!).

To be honest, I’d never had a high opinion of ravens, but recalling this story completely changed my perspective. I felt God reassuring me that, just as He had done for Elijah, He would provide the resources for anything He calls me to do.

Now, for me, ravens have become a symbol of provision, and whenever I see one, I thank God that He is faithful to supply just what I need.

How about you? Do you feel God asking you to do something, but you wonder if you’ll have what you need to accomplish it? Trust that God will provide—and don’t be surprised if He uses some unusual means to do it!

As always, you are in my thoughts and prayers, and I’d love to hear from you! You can contact me here!

In purpose and faith,
