How Easter Invites Us Into the Miracle of God in Us

For the last few weeks, John 1:14—and my Bible’s commentary on the verse—has been rolling through my mind.

It says: “Now the Word became flesh and took up residence among us” (NET).

The footnote states that the Greek phrase “took up residence among us” can also be translated as “tabernacled among us.”

The note further explains that this “alludes to the OT [Old Testament] tabernacle, where the Shekinah, the visible glory of God's presence, resided. The author is suggesting that this glory can now be seen in Jesus.”

This verse about Jesus coming to reside among us reminds me of our celebration of Emmanuel at Christmas and the wonder we feel at the thought of God Himself with us.

GOD IN US

But you know what else it brings to mind that’s even more astounding? That Easter invites us into the miracle of God in us.

If we’ve accepted Christ as our Savior, He now makes His home in our hearts—we ourselves have become His tabernacle, His temple (1 Cor. 3:16), the vessel He moves in and through to reveal Himself and impact the world around us.

The Bible tells us that the same power that raised Christ from the dead is at work in us (Eph. 1:18-20; Rom. 8:11) and that we now have access to the mind of Christ (1 Cor. 2:16).

Christ within provides everything we need for life and godliness—everything we need to experience friendship with God, flourish in our relationships, and succeed in our personal callings.

Because of Jesus’ indwelling power, we’re never alone and nothing is impossible!

EASTER PRAYER

Here’s my prayer this Easter:

Thank You, Jesus, that You are the Good Shepherd Who laid down His life for us.

Thank You for going to the cross willingly, impelled by Your deep love for us and the joy of eternal union with us.

Thank You for making Your home in our hearts and filling us with Your life and power so we can enjoy friendship with You and share Your love and glory with a hurting world. We are astonished and thrilled to be united with You and to be called Yours! We love you and we are forever grateful!

In Jesus’ name, amen.

I wish you the most joyous Easter! As always, you are in my thoughts and prayers, and I’d love to hear from you! You can contact me here or through the comment section below!
