When Fear Whispers, "You'll Never Have Enough..."

Sometimes we face situations so bleak, we wonder how we'll ever make it through.

As we assess the gap between our dreams and goals and the reality of our present circumstances, fear hovers over our shoulder, whispering, “You’ll never have enough.”

Thankfully, fear is a liar.

Here’s the truth: You have a purpose, God has a plan, and He always provides what you need to fulfill all He has called you to (2 Peter 1:3-5).

Whether you’re in need of provision for a ministry goal, help with a problem at work or in your family, or issues related to health or finances, God has a solution (it just might take a step of faith to believe it and receive it!).

Today I'm sharing a devotion* I wrote that I hope encourages you in this area. You can read it below.

Always Enough

On a winter walk, I paused in the woods. Surrounded by frozen trees, the only sound was the cheerful chirping of chickadees. Seemingly impervious to the cold, they fluttered over the snow, scavenging for birch seeds. Their tiny legs reminded me of twigs, and their downy bodies looked like the wind could blow them away as easily as a dandelion puff.

While I watched the delicate birds, I wondered at their ability to survive in such a harsh climate. In wintertime Alaska, the forests, though enchanting, are forbidding places. Temperatures can plummet to -50 degrees Fahrenheit. Days are dark and insects, one of the chickadee’s top food sources, are dead or dormant. Unlike me, chickadees don’t have the benefit of insulated parkas and access to grocery stores full of produce shipped north from warmer regions.

Yet despite their severe surroundings, God is faithful to provide, and the chickadees somehow find enough food to survive. It comforts me to consider how it is the same with us. Sometimes we have seasons of abundance, and sometimes we have seasons that stretch us beyond what we think we can bear. Yet no matter the season, come cold, dark nights or balmy, summer days, God provides.

Jesus said, “Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?” (Mathew 6:25-26, ESV).

Whatever you’re facing in this season of life, take courage knowing that just as God takes care of the birds, He’ll take care of you too.

~

As always, you are in my thoughts and prayers! I'd love to hear what’s happening in your life and any way I can pray for you.

With love,
