When It's Easier to Count Your Problems Than Your Blessings

Are you having one of those days (or weeks, or years) where it feels easier to count your problems than your blessings?⠀

I know how hard it can be to feel grateful when it seems like problems are piling one on top of the other, but thanking God for what He has already done is such a powerful key to growing our faith, finding joy, and moving forward despite our difficulties.

On that note, and in honor of Thanksgiving, today I’m sharing a devotion I wrote last year for The Joyful Life. No matter what you’re facing, I hope it encourages you to remember the ways God has provided, and I pray that you feel His reassurance that He will continue to take care of you in the coming months.

You can read the devotion below.

I hope you have a very happy Thanksgiving!

❤️ In purpose and faith,

Think of All the Wonderful Things He Has Done for You

First a pipe in my shower sprung a leak. Shortly after, my internet modem burned out. Then the light switch in my bathroom broke. Finally, just yesterday, the fuel pump in my husband’s truck called it quits.

Right now, the truck is at the mechanic’s and the shower wall is disemboweled. While I did get a new modem, I have continued to have disruptions to my internet service. As I write this, I’m watching a crew from our internet company repair and replace cables outside my house.

When problems march through my life like participants in a holiday parade, it’s tempting to focus on all that’s going wrong. But it’s times like these, more than ever, that I know I need to be vigilant in fixing my mind on the One Who provides for all my needs.

In 1 Samuel 12:24, Samuel says to the Israelites: “But be sure to fear the LORD and faithfully serve him. Think of all the wonderful things he has done for you” (NLT). As I sit here considering all that has gone wrong lately, I’m deciding to follow Samuel’s instruction. I’m thinking of all the wonderful things God has done for me: He gives me plenty of food every day. He’s given me a lovely home and faithful friends. He’s given me the technology I need to do the work He’s called me to do.

Won’t the God Who gave me the good gifts of house, internet, vehicles, and so much more, provide what I need to steward those gifts well? The answer, of course, is yes. He’s provided in the past, and I know He will again and again!

What challenges are you facing today? How has God provided in the past? How does remembering God’s past provision change your perspective on your current problems?

I'd love to hear your thoughts, and I'd love to pray for you too! You can contact me here to let me know how I can be praying for you!
