Will God Really Do What He Said?

Jesus said, “This is the only work God wants from you: Believe in the one he has sent” (John 6:29 NLT).

It sounds so simple, yet believing can feel hard sometimes, can’t it?

Like the disciples who hadn’t yet seen Jesus after His resurrection but heard reports that He was alive, we sometimes question if what we’ve heard about Him is true. We read the promises and hear accounts of His amazing works in the lives of others, but still, we wonder:

Will God really come through? Will He really provide peace, provision, healing? Will He really do what He said He will do?

WE CAN TAKE HIM AT HIS WORD

I’ve certainly struggled with these questions at times.

But as I’ve been preparing for Easter and reflecting on the events of Jesus’ life leading up to and through His crucifixion and resurrection—the heart-wrenching tears He cried over Jerusalem…the humble way He washed the disciples’ feet at the Last Supper…the anguish of His soul in Gethsemane, the resolution with which He went to the cross…I’m reminded of His unfailing love and absolute trustworthiness.

For the joy set before Him (us!), Jesus willingly laid down His life, and His selfless sacrifice proved beyond a doubt that His heart is good and that we can take Him at His word.

We can take Him at His word when He says:

FRESH HOPE

Friend, if God said it, He will do it! He can be believed. And even when we struggle with believing, He is right alongside us, helping us.

Romans 8:26 tells us that “the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example, we don’t know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words” (NLT).

And Isaiah 42:2-3 tells us “He will be gentle…He will not break the bruised reed, nor quench the dimly burning flame. He will encourage the fainthearted, those tempted to despair. He will see full justice given to all who have been wronged” (TLB)

Jesus is so gentle. He knows our human weakness and He gives us strength to do the number one thing that defines us as Christians and unlocks His supernatural, life-giving power in our lives: Believe in the Son of God.

If there’s something God has promised that you’re struggling to believe, I pray you are filled with fresh hope and confidence as you reflect on the perfect Lamb who was slain, the Son of God made flesh Who defeated sin and death once and for all—the God of miracles Who loves you more than you can imagine!
