What I Didn’t Say on Mother’s Day
/I wanted to write something for you on Mother’s Day, but I wasn’t sure what to say…
Should I share about how good it felt to hold my very own baby in my arms on this holiday that historically has held so much grief?
Should I share about how deeply my heart is pierced with pain for those mamas I know whose babies are in Heaven or who are grappling with infertility and longing to hold a child of their own?
Or how sad I feel for the daughters who can’t call up their mom whenever they want to because she’s either gone or they’re estranged?
Should I share about how incredible moms are? How I knew they were amazing but giving birth myself filled me with new awe at their raw power and their ability to give so deeply of themselves, physically, mentally, and emotionally?
Or about what an incomprehensible gift it is that God shared with us the ability to co-create life with Him?
I could have written about all of the above and more, but this morning, three days after Mother’s Day, these are the words that settled in my soul:
You are fearfully and wonderfully made.
You are a treasure.
You are favored and you are loved.
God’s heart is attuned to you.
Like a mama who comes running when her baby cries, He is tender and attentive to your tears. He feels your pain more deeply than even you do because when He made you, He knit Himself to you.
He welcomes all of you.
Like a mama who changes dirty diapers without batting an eye, He’s not put off by your messes.
He enjoys providing for you.
Like a mama nursing her baby at her breast, He satisfies your needs and sustains your life.
He loves to watch you grow.
Like a mama watching her baby learn to walk, He’s not disappointed by your mistakes but rather delighted by your efforts and willingness to get up and try again.
He has good plans for you.
Like a mama, He knows you were born for something special; He knows that He’s planted purpose into every strand of your DNA.
You are wanted.
You are adored.
You are safe.
You are not alone.
Everything a daughter longs for, everything a mother aspires to be, is found in Him.
See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! (1 John 3:1)

...Is it time to say goodbye to something in your life? Leaving can be hard because it can feel like losing—and sometimes it does come with a loss.
But so often what we let go of is vastly outweighed by what we gain when we open our hands in trust...
