The Truth About Your Setback
/As I shared last week, Fairbanks got a lot of snow in April. After having our warmest March on record (which resulted in the snow being almost completely gone by the end of March), it was a bit of a letdown to have the return of such adverse weather in April. But, by the time I wrote my last post, which was less than a week after our last big snowfall, almost all the snow had (re)melted. The sun was warm, robins were singing, and my chokecherry and honeysuckle were budding. Spring had returned in full force, and we in Fairbanks were delighted.
As I witnessed this turnaround, this thought came to me: most setbacks are only temporary. As frustrating as the return of snow might have been, it wasn’t permanent.
In Psalm 30, David wrote, “Weeping may last through the night, but joy comes with the morning” (Psalm 30:5 NIV). As surely as the snow melts in the spring, and as surely as the night will turn to day, no season lasts forever.
Are you facing a setback? Maybe you didn’t get that job you really wanted or you didn’t get into your preferred college. Maybe you’re dealing with a challenge in a relationship or have suffered a financial loss.
Whatever you may be confronted with today, you can find hope and comfort knowing that “all that happens to us is working for our good if we love God and are fitting into his plans” (Romans 8:28 TLB). Not all things are good, but God is, and He has a solution for every setback.
We may have struggles and difficulties, but they are not the end of the story. Just like Fairbanks’ snowy setback didn’t stop spring from coming, so your setback will not stop God from working in you and fulfilling all the plans He has for you. He can use your setback for your advantage. As you trust Him, He will even do beyond what you can ask or think or imagine! Get ready, good things are coming!
You are in my thoughts and prayers!

But so often what we let go of is vastly outweighed by what we gain when we open our hands in trust...
