The Promise I Turn to When I’m Not Sure Where to Get the Help I Need
/Sometimes when I’m confronted with challenges or hard decisions, I find my heart falling into a place of discouragement. Idling in the undercurrents of my mind are thoughts that go something like this: I need help, but there’s no one to help me. I need to figure this out, but I have no idea how.
On a subconscious level, I feel alone. And since I also know, deep down, that on my own I am not enough to meet all my needs and solve all my problems, threaded through that sense of aloneness is the fear that I won’t have what I need.
The further I allow myself to slip into discouragement, the more overwhelmed I feel and the more elusive answers seem to be.
Thankfully, despite how real those feelings can seem, they are not reality.
The truth is, I am never alone and I always have someone to help me.
In Isaiah 41:10 God says, “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
I am with you…I will help you…
When I shift my attention from my worries to these words, I never fail to find comfort. The God of the whole universe wants to help me! He is with me and holding me with His right hand, just like a strong, loving parent.
More promises of help
There are actually many places in the Bible that God promises to help us. In the next several chapters of Isaiah alone He reiterates this message multiple times:
“For I am the Lord your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you.” Isaiah 41:13
“Do not fear, for I myself will help you,” declares the Lord, your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel.” Isaiah 41:14
“This is what the Lord says— he who made you, who formed you in the womb, and who will help you: Do not be afraid, Jacob, my servant, Jeshurun, whom I have chosen.” Isaiah 44:2
“This is what the Lord says: ‘In the time of my favor I will answer you, and in the day of salvation I will help you.’” Isaiah 49:8
Isn’t it beautiful how God repeatedly reassures us of His help?
Whether we need help with medical decisions, learning a new skill, starting a new job, adjusting to changes in our family structure, or organizing our homes, God cares. He is right there, holding our hand and promising to bring solutions.
For me, when those feelings of being alone and helpless come along, the best thing I’ve found is to do is to remind myself that God promises to help me, choose to trust regardless of how I feel, and wait patiently for His guidance. He is trustworthy and true, and He will come through!

...Is it time to say goodbye to something in your life? Leaving can be hard because it can feel like losing—and sometimes it does come with a loss.
But so often what we let go of is vastly outweighed by what we gain when we open our hands in trust...
