End of the Month Resources: Building Connection With the Young People in Our Lives, Plus Encouragement for Those of Us With Sensitive Personalities
/Happy last day of February!
Although we've been getting a lot of snow up here in Fairbanks, it's exciting to know that, now that we're heading into March, spring is just around the corner!
As you know (unless you're new to my online community—in which case, welcome!), at the close of every month, I share a few of my favorite listens, reads, and resources.
As we wrap up February, I hope these resources encourage and inspire you as you pursue a life of purpose, joy, and intimacy with God!
You are in my thoughts and prayers, and I’d love to hear from you! Leave a comment below or contact me here!
❤️ In purpose and faith,
I've been reading...
Loving Our Kids on Purpose: Making a Heart-to-Heart Connection by Danny Silk
“As parents [or as guardians] our goal is really to introduce our children to relationship with God by doing our best to relate to them like God does…
We must teach our kids what freedom looks like, feels like, and how to prosper in it. This is the model of Heaven. That is what our Father in Heaven is doing. The best way to prepare our children to handle the multitude of options they will have as children of the King of Kings is to invest in developing a heart-to-heart connection. This connection replaces the disrespect factory and introduces the honor factory. The practice of honor will revolutionize the family system, because honor brings power to relationships and the individuals in those relationships.” - Danny Silk
In my efforts to understand how to best be there for my niece and set healthy boundaries in our home, I’ve been reading Loving Our Kids on Purpose by Danny Silk, and it has been so illuminating!
He provides a strong scriptural foundation to his parenting approach, as well as many practical tools.
Here are some topics he covers:
Learning to relate to the children in our lives the way God relates to us
The power of our words
Taking care of our own needs
Replacing punishment and fear with love and freedom—in our own relationship with God as well as in our relationships with the kids in our lives
Learning to control the only person you can control—yourself—by taking responsibility for your own actions and reactions.
Exchanging punishment for loving discipline that reflects God’s relationship with us
Respecting children's God-given need for freedom and teaching them how to properly use their freedom
There’s a lot packed into this book, and it’s one I will definitely be re-reading. I’m sure I’ll get even more out of it on my second go-round!
If you’re looking for a fresh approach to parenting and connecting with the kids in your life, I highly recommend this book! You can find it here!

Are You a Highly Sensitive Person? 14 Ways to Tell by Melody Wilding
I've long known I'm an introvert, and I've also known for a long time that I'm a pretty sensitive person—sensitive to things such as caffeine, stress, and external stimulation (especially sound), as well as sensitive to emotions (my own and other people's), art, and beauty.
Through various situations I've found myself in recently, I've been reminded of my sensitive nature, and I have felt a little bad about it at times. But there are some really good things about being a sensitive person. This article encouraged me by pointing out some of the strengths of sensitive people. If you feel that you might fall into that category (or know someone who might), give this article a read! You can find the full article here.

...Is it time to say goodbye to something in your life? Leaving can be hard because it can feel like losing—and sometimes it does come with a loss.
But so often what we let go of is vastly outweighed by what we gain when we open our hands in trust...
